Let there be light!

We got challenged in work to on our departments identity and show this off. As a practical department this was the ideal opportunity to add some light and electronics to show off what we could do. In the end we ended up making five signs using LED neon strip. If you exclude the cost of time and paint this probably cost in the region of £50 as we managed to use a load of recycled plywood from around a building site.

Can you just……..

II often get visits from people just popping in and it ends up with them saying “Can you just”. In this case it was can you just make a nose for Pinocchio. This is the sort of challenge that I like, the chance to think and solve a problem. It tends to be one of those problems that I wake up in the middle of the night being able to solve. In this case it used a scrap bike brake cable and a bike pump to slide in and out when the lever was moved.

Adding some movement to the department. This has been another part of the identify upgrade in our department. This is a sign that I was inspired to make after visiting a pop up display by Cabaret Mechanical Theatre. I made the work Design Tech that has been mounted about the doors to our department. My next stage of this (at some point) will be to add a PIR sensor to it so that it switches on and runs for 10 seconds or so when people walk through the doors.

Storage solutions! Nothing makes me happier than working on workshop infrastructure builds! I know I am sad, but I do like the calming process of upgrading where I work.
